When you are selling your home, you want buyers to be able to walk through and picture themselves living there. You want Buyers to look at your room sizes and upgrades and layouts. You do not want them to get distracted by your personal items. There are items that should be packed away when selling your home. We list the top 10 things to put away:

1. Jewelry and Valuables – Don’t leave your jewelry and valuables lying around. This tip is more for security than anything else. REALTORS® do their best to screen Buyers, but for security sakes – please hide your jewelry and valuables.

2. Family Photos – Buyers need to be able to picture themselves living in your home and it’s difficult to do that when there are family photos throughout the house. Take them down and box them up.

3. Kids Paintings – Yes, they’re cute – but Buyers can get distracted if your fridge is covered in them. Take them down and pack them away.

4. Medications – If you have a built-in medicine cabinet, Buyers will look in it. Remove excess medications and hide them in a dresser where Buyer’s won’t look.

7. Excess Small Appliances – Remove the excess small appliances off your kitchen counters. This includes waffle makers, bread-makers, etc. You want your kitchen counters to be as empty as possible as this will make the kitchen look larger.

8. Out of Season Items – Remove Christmas lights if it’s past December or pack away your summer patio set if it’s winter.

9. Taxidermy Items – You may be an avid hunter, but Buyer’s don’t like to see stuffed animals on the walls. Pack them away.

10. Packed Boxes – You’ve been busy packing in anticipation of putting your home on the market and now have a bunch of packed boxes lying around. Don’t stack them in a spare bedroom or garage – it will make the rooms look smaller. Ideally your packed boxes should by stored away in an off-site storage unit until you move.
